How to Pay for PS Plus in Kenya with M-Pesa (2026 Guide)

PlayStation Plus is needed for online multiplayer on PS5 and PS4, and the higher tiers add a library of games to download. The problem for Kenyan players is paying for it: the PlayStation Store does not take M-Pesa, and many Kenyan Visa and Mastercard debit cards are declined for foreign subscriptions. The way round it is simple: pay for PS Plus from your PSN wallet, and fill the wallet with a PSN gift card bought with M-Pesa.

The short answer

1. Check your PlayStation account's country.
2. Buy a PSN gift card for that same country and pay with M-Pesa.
3. Redeem the code to add the money to your PSN wallet.
4. Buy the PS Plus plan you want. It is paid from the wallet.

Step 1: check your account's country

PSN gift cards only work on an account registered to the same country, and Sony does not allow changing an account's country. On a PS5 go to Settings → Users and Accounts → Account → Account Information and note the country. Kenyan accounts are most often US, UK or a Gulf country such as the UAE or Saudi Arabia.

Step 2: choose a plan and work out what it costs

PS Plus comes in three tiers. Prices differ by country and Sony changes them from time to time, so open the PlayStation Store on your own account to see the exact price before you buy a card.

A 12-month plan costs much less per month than paying monthly, so if you play online all year it is usually the better buy.

Step 3: buy a card that covers the price

Gift cards come in fixed amounts, so you may need more than one. Wallet balances add up: two $25 cards give you $50 in the wallet. Whatever is left over stays in the wallet for games and add-ons.

Step 4: redeem and subscribe

1. On the PS5: Settings → Users and Accounts → Account → Payment and Subscriptions → Redeem Codes, and enter the code. The balance is added immediately.
2. Open the PlayStation Store, choose PlayStation Plus, pick the tier and length, and confirm. It is paid from the wallet.

Turn off auto-renew, or keep the wallet topped up

PS Plus renews automatically. If the wallet does not have enough money on the renewal date, the renewal fails and your membership lapses, and if you have a card saved, Sony may try to charge it. Either top the wallet up with another gift card before the renewal date, or turn auto-renew off in Settings → Users and Accounts → Account → Payment and Subscriptions → Subscriptions and renew by hand each time.

Can I pay for PS Plus directly with M-Pesa?

No. Sony does not accept M-Pesa. Paying through a PSN gift card bought with M-Pesa is the standard way Kenyan players do it.

Is there a PS Plus gift card?

Sony sells PS Plus membership codes in some countries, but a regular PSN wallet card does the same job and can also be spent on games if you change your mind. It is the more flexible choice.

My card would not redeem. What went wrong?
