How to Create a US PSN Account in Kenya and Top It Up with M-Pesa (2026)

There is no PlayStation Store for Kenya. Sony does not run one, so every Kenyan PlayStation player is shopping on an account registered to another country, usually the United States, the United Kingdom or a Gulf country. If you are setting up a PS5 or PS4 from scratch, or you want a second account to reach games and prices that your current one cannot, a US account is the most common choice, and you can fund it with M-Pesa through a US PSN gift card.

Before you start: the country can never be changed

The country you pick when you create a PlayStation account is permanent. Sony does not let you move an account to another region afterwards, and anything you buy stays tied to that account. This is the single most important fact in this guide.

So decide first. If you already have an account with games on it, check its country before buying anything: on a PS5 go to Settings → Users and Accounts → Account → Account Information. Why most Kenyans choose a US account

• The biggest catalogue. Almost every game, demo and add-on is available on the US store.
• Dollar pricing. Most online price guides, deal trackers and YouTube reviews quote US prices, so it is easy to know what something should cost.
• Gift cards are easy to get. US PSN cards come in many amounts, from $5 upwards.

A UK account is the other common choice, especially on consoles imported from Britain. It works just as well; the cards are in pounds.

How to create a US PlayStation account

On a PS5

1. From the home screen, choose the user icon, then Add User → Get Started → Create an Account.
2. When asked for your country or region, choose United States.
3. Enter your date of birth. You must be an adult to manage your own wallet; a child account is controlled by a parent's account.
4. Use an email address you can open: the account is verified by email, and your gift-card codes will arrive there too.
5. Choose an Online ID and password, then finish the steps on screen. The form asks for details for the country you chose.

In a browser

You can also create the account at the PlayStation website: choose Sign In → Create an Account, pick United States as the country, and then sign in on the console with the same email and password.

Playing on the same console as your old account

On a PS5, sign in with the new account and turn on Console Sharing and Offline Play (Settings → Users and Accounts → Other). Games bought on the US account can then be played by other users on that console.

How to add money with M-Pesa

The PlayStation Store does not accept M-Pesa, and many Kenyan bank cards are declined for foreign online payments. A US PSN gift card solves both problems.

Mistakes that waste a code

• Buying a card for the wrong region. A UK or UAE card will not redeem on a US account, and the other way round. There is no conversion.
• Creating the account with the wrong country. It cannot be fixed later. Check before you finish sign-up.
• Using a child account. Child accounts cannot redeem and spend freely; create the account as an adult.
• Buying codes from strangers on WhatsApp or Instagram. A code that has already been used, or was bought with a stolen card, gets the account locked. Buy from a registered shop that will replace a code that fails.
